I most commonly work with adults ages 25-35, teens ages 11-17, and young adults ages 18-24. I also work with adults across the lifespan. Services for children ages 6-10 may be available when arrangements can be made for me to see the child at school.

Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about therapy with Karos Counseling, including who I work with, what to expect, appointment options, insurance, and coordination with families, schools, and other providers.
1. Who I Work With
My core focus is teens and adults. I may work with children ages 6-10 when there is an arrangement with their school that allows sessions to take place in person. Telehealth is generally not offered to children younger than 11 because it can be difficult to provide developmentally appropriate and engaging care through that format.
2. Concerns and Areas of Focus
I commonly help clients with depression, anxiety, ADHD, school-related difficulties, test anxiety, sports-performance concerns, executive-function challenges, and parenting skills. We can use the free consultation to determine whether my experience and approach fit your needs.
Karos Counseling is generally not a good fit for court-mandated treatment, custody evaluations or disputes, forensic or other legal matters, or concerns involving ongoing violent behavior. Telehealth may also be inappropriate when someone needs a higher level of care or more intensive risk monitoring. If I am not the right provider, I will help identify possible referral options whenever I can.
Yes. Therapy can address the anxiety, mood concerns, family patterns, or other barriers contributing to school avoidance. For school-based sessions, the family and school will also need a workable plan for helping the student get to school and attend appointments.
Yes. Therapy may address executive functioning, emotional regulation, routines, motivation, behavior patterns, school functioning, and strategies parents can use at home.
Yes. OCD and intrusive thoughts can look different throughout childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, so treatment is adapted to the client’s age, symptoms, and developmental needs.
Yes. In addition to my clinical experience, I have more than a decade of experience coaching runners. I help athletes with performance anxiety, confidence, motivation, injury recovery, identity concerns, and other mental-health challenges affecting sports and daily life. See athlete mental performance support for more detail.
3. Parents, Families, and Schools
Parents can participate when it supports the teen’s treatment. This may be especially helpful when family interactions or the home environment are affecting the teen’s mood or functioning. Parent involvement may include discussing family patterns, improving communication, and learning practical tools to support the teen while still respecting appropriate confidentiality. See the teen therapy page for more about confidentiality and family involvement.
Yes. A parent or legal guardian may schedule a consultation for a minor child. When the prospective client is 18 or older, the adult client must consent to services and complete their own intake process, although they may authorize a parent or another support person to participate.
Students ages 11 and older may be able to attend telehealth from school when the school agrees to accommodate the appointment and can provide a private, secure space with a reliable internet connection.
After the client or legal guardian signs an appropriate release of information, I can coordinate with schools, healthcare professionals, and treatment programs. Communication may include relevant updates about treatment needs, strategies that are helping, continuing barriers, and ways the care team can better support the client.
4. Consultations and Getting Started
We will briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, the concerns you would like help with, my treatment approach, expectations for therapy, and possible next steps. The consultation also gives us an opportunity to determine whether the services I offer appear to be a good fit. A consultation assesses fit and does not establish an ongoing therapeutic relationship by itself.
The first full appointment is an intake assessment. We will review your current concerns, relevant personal and treatment history, assessment results, symptoms, strengths, and goals. We will also begin developing an initial treatment plan.
When appointments are available and the required forms are completed, clients can often begin within approximately three days. Actual availability may vary.
Reach out and ask. There is no single definition of “serious enough.” If something is disrupting your life, relationships, school, work, athletic performance, or emotional well-being and you are unsure how to address it, getting additional support may be worthwhile.
5. Appointment Options
Appointments are primarily available during the daytime, with the final regular appointment ending by 4:00 p.m. Central Time. Some flexibility may be available for occasional parent sessions.
Karos Counseling offers telehealth, school-based therapy when arrangements can be made with the school, and seasonal group services. These options are distinct from a traditional year-round office-based practice.
6. Insurance and Payment
Karos Counseling currently accepts Indiana Medicaid, Anthem Medicaid, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Illinois Medicaid. Coverage depends on the client’s specific plan, location, eligibility, and service. View insurance and payment information.
I can check your plan through the appropriate insurance portal, but clients should also confirm their benefits and my network status directly through their insurance plan. For Anthem plans, use Anthem’s official provider-search tool.
Private-pay services may still be available. I am also developing a network of referral partners and will try to help identify other options when I am not able to provide an appropriate or affordable service.
A limited number of sliding-scale openings are available for private-pay clients. We will discuss what the client can reasonably afford and whether an available rate can be arranged. Sliding-scale availability is not guaranteed.
7. Care Coordination and Referrals
Yes. If my services are not the right clinical, logistical, or financial fit, I will try to provide appropriate referral options. The availability and responsiveness of outside providers cannot be guaranteed.
